Frequently Asked
Questions
Below we’ve tried to answer some of the most commonly asked questions. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please feel free to contact us at any time. What is borojo?Borojo (pronounced bo-ro-HO) is a tropical superfruit that is indigenous to the Southern Pacific rainforests of Colombia. To some extent, borojo also grows in Ecuador and Panama. The fruit (see image at left) is about the size of a grapefruit, and is harvested once it's ripe. What is borojo used for?Borojo has been used for centuries by the local population for what is considered its health promoting and medicinal properties. While borojo is known famously in Latin America as an aphrodisiac (it is called “Nature’s Viagra”), it is also consumed as an energizer, a metabolism booster, and to maintain a healthy weight. Studies commissioned by Nutropical found that borojo contains powerful polyphenol antioxidants and a high level of minerals and essential amino acids. Polyphenols play an important role in human health, and are what give red wine, chocolate and blueberries their antioxidant and health promoting powers. Borojo also has an Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) value of over 5,400 (μmolTE/100 g), which exceeds the ORAC of most fruits and vegetables. ORAC is a measure of the antioxidant capacity of food, with higher values indicating superior antioxidant capabilities. Is borojo safe for everyone?Borojo is a natural fruit product that has been safely consumed for centuries. Before starting any dietary supplement program however, you should consult with a physician. This especially applies to women that are pregnant or breast feeding. How many capsules do I take?Nutropical recommends that you take three capsules daily, preferably with a meal. While you should take them at different times throughout the day, it is OK to take all three servings at once. Where are your products made? All Nutropical products including our borojo capsules are made in the USA in an FDA approved facility and following the strictest quality control procedures. The raw materials for our products are sourced from leading eco-friendly vendors in the regions where they grow and are tested for quality and purity. What types of minerals and amino acids does borojo contain?Minerals found in large amounts in borojo include potassium, phosphorous, calcium and magnesium. These macro minerals are necessary for maintaining the body’s central functions, staving off illness, and for cellular regeneration and growth. Borojo also contains amino acids such as lysine, tyrosine, leucine, and valine. These essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein and critical for healthy functioning, are not produced by the body and therefore must be supplied in the diet. What are polyphenols?Polyphenols are powerful antioxidant compounds found in fruits and vegetables and are thought to be responsible for the health promoting aspects of these foods. Research suggests that consumption of antioxidant rich foods may reduce the damage to cells caused by scavenging free radicals.
